Bristol Virginia Utilities comments on President Bush’s support of broadband initiatives

In recent years, Bristol Virginia Utilities (BVU) has taken a leadership role in not only our local community, but also in the nation by becoming one of the first municipal utilities to build a true fiber-to-the-premise network offering voice, video and data services.  The decision to make this investment in technology was done for two primary reasons.  First, to foster economic development by providing a communications infrastructure that could be utilized by businesses both large and small.  And second, to enhance the quality of life for local citizens by providing affordable broadband access.

Now that the White House has endorsed broadband initiatives and fiber-to-the home technology, it seems that BVU was a “step ahead” in their efforts.  Wes Rosenbalm, President and CEO of BVU and BVU OptiNet states, “We knew that fiber-to-the-home was the leading technology when we made the decision for that investment.  The President’s support of these new initiatives validates our decision.  Residents in Bristol, VA should be proud to have these leading edge services and advanced technologies already available in our community.”
